Discover the Performances of the Spanish Riding School

The world-famous performances by the Lipizzaners – the Ballet of the White Stallions – take place in the unique, baroque Winter Riding School at Hofburg Palace, built under Charles VI.

These performances are the result of years of training for the rider and their Lipizzaners. From the young, boisterous stallions to the fully trained School Stallions, they enchant the audience with their performance in the School Quadrille, in the Schools on and above the ground and on the Long Rein.

This atmosphere and the accompanying classical Viennese music make the wonderful presentation by the riders and their Lipizzaners even more enjoyable.

Lipizzaners at the Piber Stud

As a UNESCO-recognised centre of international intangible cultural heritage, the Lipizzaner Stud Piber preserves centuries of knowledge about the breeding and rearing of Lipizzaners. The stud farm is also responsible for providing the next generation of the Spanish Riding School’s world-famous white stallions.

If the walls of this stud farm could talk, they’d have many different stories to tell! They would tell you about the broodmares in residence who are expecting their foals in the near future, about the adventures of Lipizzaner foals as they discover the world, and about the Spanish Riding School’s Lipizzaner stallions who are enjoying their well-deserved retirement here.
